The SpokenWeb Podcast Producer will support the planning for and production of 10 podcasts, featuring SpokenWeb-affiliated audio collections of poetry readings aimed at increasing the SpokenWeb profile, a SSHRC-funded research-library-community partnership. This position liaises and works collaboratively with the central SpokenWeb podcasting production team at Simon Fraser University, BC. It represents 8-12 hour per week TRAC contract. The incumbent will have access to the office space and necessary software.
Hourly Rate: TRAC rates will apply
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Concordia Podcasting Task Force on implementing established Podcasting Guide
- Learn specialized software, produce and create podcasts, develop stories and submit pitches
- Verify and ensure copyrights and permission on the audio (archival and new) featured in the podcasts, liaise with the library contact person and copyright task forces to ensure the required permissions.
- In consultation with the Director and project manager plan and develop an annual calendar of the podcasts
- In consultation with the Director, provide literary podcasting training workshops to students and faculty, and provide support and assistance in the production of podcasts associated with English department curriculum
- Log and set up podcasting projects in Teamwork (software)
- Partner with SpokenWeb network affiliates to capture content and generate ideas for new podcast production projects
- Research podcast trends, identify new opportunities to improve shows and engagement
- Optimize audience engagement through events and other strategic promotions
- Deliver reports and pitch new podcast ideas at SpokenWeb Concordia team meetings
- Organize travel and hosting guests for podcast related activities, where relevant
- Attend mandatory project team meetings, trainings, CU team meetings as required.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- In-progress undergraduate/graduate degree in Journalism/Communications or equivalent
- Must be a current student in good academic standing
- At least 1-year experience in a producing podcasts
- Creativity and knowledge of various podcasting trends
- Interest in Canadian poetry and contributing to research focused on Canadian poetry digital archive
- Demonstrated competency with technology and computer/software skills; comfort switching between a Mac and PC environment
