General Description of Archive

This is the BAnQ's online digital collection. Most of the recordings are songs, but it serves as an example of a library's archives turned online digital repository. The website is very basic, and you can search through categories and lists by Title, Date, Marque (Location made), Subject, Interpretations, by Singer/Composer. The Subject list is the most interesting part of this site as it is an index of each song's subject matter, so you can choose from Female singer from Quebec to songs about Hitler. This is relevant to our archive because searching by subject matter and index is very useful for researchers. The archive is currently available in French only.

Description of archive history or URL

In 1997, for the 100th anniversary of sound recordings produced in Canada, BAnQ chose about 2,000 recordings to release online. These recordings came from the Iris multimedia catalog. For an in-depth explanation (in french) please see: http://collections.banq.qc.ca/ark:/52327/bs14988
